| Exercise After Disc Surgery |

If patients have doubts about returning to activity and exercise after disc surgery, a recent review of 14 randomized control trials reveals that it is safe to do so. In fact, the study said that, following surgery for a prolapsed lumbar disc, exercise appears to be a beneficial part of the rehabilitation program.
Researchers found that performing some type of exercise after surgery was associated with significant improvements in pain and functional capability in the short run without increasing the risk of another operation. Moreover, high-intensity exercise programs were found to be slightly more effective than low-intensity programs in reducing both pain and disability. This study shows that physical therapy as soon as possible after lumbar disc surgery promotes recovery.
